Maria Teresa Tancredi, a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Dr. Jennifer Jo Thompson, is a 2024 recipient of the Future Leaders in Science Award.
Thanks to this program, on March 5, 2024, Maria Teresa joined a group of 40 fellow ASA, CSSA, and SSSA members to attend a Congressional Visit Day on Capitol Hill. During the visit, the group met with Senators' and House of Representatives' staffers to advocate for continued USDA funding for agricultural research. Maria Teresa was part of the Georgia-Florida team, and the only one representing the Peach State.
The team visited with the Elected Officials’ staffers from the two states to urge them to allocate funds towards the Agriculture & Food Research Initiative (AFRI) and the Agriculture Advanced Research & Development Authority (AgARDA) Programs.
