Internships

CRSS Internship Courses

  • CRSS 3910 – Crop Science Internship
  • CRSS 3920 – Environmental Soil Science Internship
  • CRSS 3930 – Turfgrass Management Internship

Starting Fall 2025, all incoming and transfer students entering the program (Agriscience and Environmental Systems, Environmental Resource Science, Turfgrass Management or Water and Soil Resources majors) will be required to complete either 3 credits of CRSS 3910/20/30 or CRSS 4960R.

CRSS Internship Guidelines

A minimum of 45 hours must be completed for each credit hour earned, with a 3 credit hour maximum for each experience (135 hours = 3 credits). The experience must be arranged by the student and approved by the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences prior to the start of the experience. To gain approval, a student must 1) fill out the CRSS internship application and 2) ensure that their host has a current Memorandum of Understanding with UGA. In addition to the work completed during an internship students will also complete reflective assignments as assigned.

How to Receive Academic Credit for Your Internship

  1. Talk with your faculty mentor about doing an internship the semester before you plan on doing an internship.
  2. Complete the online CRSS internship application as soon as you have secured an internship.
  3. Memorandum of Understanding

A student must have a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in place before they can register for CRSS 3910/20/30. This process can take several weeks, so please plan accordingly so that you don’t miss the deadline for this step. You can check to see if the company/organization you are going to work for has a current MOU with UGA by going to this website. If your host company/organization does NOT have a current MOU on file with UGA or their MOU will expire prior to the completion of your internship, then email the MOU PDFs to your supervisor at your internship and copy the CRSS Academic Services Professional/Josh Rubin. Please use the suggested wording below to draft your email with the correct details. If you copy and paste the email below make sure the links to the MOUs get copied into your email. Companies/organizations can choose to use either a one (1) year MOU or a three (3) year MOU, if they foresee taking on interns in future years. Once you have received a completed copy of the MOU back from your supervisor, please email it to the CRSS Academic Services Professional/Josh Rubin for routing through the legal process.

If the company/organization you are going to work for has a current MOU on file with UGA AND it will not expire during your internship, you do not need to request a new MOU.

Subject: Signed Memorandum of Understanding needed

Hello (internship supervisor name),

I am excited for the opportunity to begin my internship work with (Company/Organization Name).

I have provided links to a one (1) year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or a three (3) year MOU between (Company/Organization Name) and the University of Georgia. To receive academic credit for my internship, this document must be filled out, signed and emailed back to me and copied to the CRSS Academic Services Professional/Josh Rubin at least one month before I start my internship on (internship start date). Once signed, the document will go through the UGA Office of Legal Affairs.

A couple of items to note about the MOU:

  • The section on the last page must have the dates of one complete year, not just the dates of my internship (i.e., June 1, 2024 – June 1, 2025).
  • This is a legal document designed to protect students and organizations. If you have any questions about the wording or need to see any changes, email the CRSS Academic Services Professional/Josh Rubin and he can help you get in touch with a member of the UGA Legal Team who is authorized to handle changes.
  • I will not be cleared to register for the course until this MOU is signed. Therefore, it is important to complete it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your help in completing this document and for the opportunity to serve as your intern!

Best,
(Student Name)
