A minimum of 45 hours must be completed for each credit hour earned, with a 3 credit hour maximum for each experience (135 hours = 3 credits).
How to Receive Academic Credit for Your Internship
1. Discuss your internship plans with your CRSS faculty mentor the semester before your internship.
2. After you have secured an internship, please complete the online CRSS internship application.
3. Students must ensure that the host company/organization that they will be doing their internship with has a current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on file with UGA that will not expire during their internship. Please note that a MOU is not required for College-sponsored internships or when an internship host is a UGA entity (e.g., the UGA Office of Sustainability, UGArden, a UGA lab or a UGA research program, etc.)
A signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is required before a student can begin their internship. This process can take several weeks, so please plan accordingly. Students can check to see if the host company/organization they are going to do their internship with has a current MOU with UGA by going to this website. If your host company/organization does NOT have a current MOU on file with UGA or their MOU will expire prior to the completion of your internship, then email the MOU PDFs to the supervisor at your internship and copy the CRSS Academic Services Professional/Josh Rubin. Please use the suggested wording below to draft your email with the correct details. When you copy and paste the email below, please make sure the links to the MOUs are copied into your email.
Once you have received a completed copy of the MOU back from your internship supervisor, please forward it to the CRSS Academic Services Professional/Josh Rubin for routing through the legal process.
4. Once a student has completed steps 1-3, they will receive an email with instructions on how to register for CRSS 3910/20/30.
5. Once registered, your CRSS faculty mentor will be in touch regarding the coursework required for receiving academic credit for your internship.

Subject: Signed Memorandum of Understanding needed
Hello (internship supervisor name),
I am excited for the opportunity to begin my internship work with (Company/Organization Name).
I have provided links to a one (1) year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or a three (3) year MOU between (Company/Organization Name) and the University of Georgia. To receive academic credit for my internship, this document must be filled out, signed and emailed back to me and copied to the CRSS Academic Services Professional/Josh Rubin at least one month before I start my internship on (internship start date). Once signed, the document will go through the UGA Office of Legal Affairs.
A couple of items to note about the MOU:
- The section on the last page must have the dates of one complete year, not just the dates of my internship (i.e., June 1, 2024 – June 1, 2025).
- This is a legal document designed to protect students and organizations. If you have any questions about the wording or need to see any changes, email the CRSS Academic Services Professional/Josh Rubin and he can help you get in touch with a member of the UGA Legal Team who is authorized to handle changes.
- I will not be cleared to register for the course until this MOU is signed. Therefore, it is important to complete it as soon as possible.
Thank you for your help in completing this document and for the opportunity to serve as your intern!
Best,
(Student Name)
