Scholarships
Scholarships are made possible through generous contributions that recognize and encourage academic and professional achievement. Crop and Soil Sciences departmental scholarships are awarded each academic year through an application process that runs each spring (typically January 1st – March 1st). Scholarship recipients are then announced in April.

Crop and Soil Sciences Departmental Scholarships
Attie A. Fleming
- Eligibility: Undergraduate student majoring in the field of crop/plant sciences
- Criteria: Academic merit and financial need
- Award: $1,000 divided between fall and spring semesters
Crop and Soil Sciences International
- Eligibility: Any crop and soil sciences major participating in a university related study abroad program
- Criteria: Academic merit and financial need
- Award: Number of awards and amount of each award determined annually
Frederick B. And Marjorie W. Smith Scholarship in Soil Science
- Eligibility: Any student majoring in an area related to soil science
- Criteria: None
- Award: $1,000 divided between fall and spring semesters
Golf Course Builders Association of America
- Eligibility: Junior or senior CAES or forestry student interested in a career in golf course construction, design and/or related products
- Criteria: Academic merit, minimum 3.0 GPA
- Award: $1,000 divided between fall and spring semesters
J. Frank McGill "Up with Peanuts"
- Eligibility: Rising junior or senior; priority given to individuals involved in the peanut industry
- Criteria: Academic merit
- Award: $2,000 divided between fall and spring semesters
Soil Testing and Plant Analysis
- Eligibility: Junior or senior in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences
- Criteria: None
- Award: $1,000 divided between fall and spring semesters
Additional Scholarship Opportunities
Georgia Association of Conservation District Supervisors Scholarship ($1000)
The scholarship is given to students majoring in, or intending to major in, a soil and water conservation related area. Acceptable areas of study include, but are not limited to, agricultural education, agronomy, horticulture, plant pathology, and agricultural communications. Applications and a current transcript must be received by December 31, 2024.

Georgia State Golf Association Moncrief Scholarship ($2500)
This scholarship is awarded annually to a Turfgrass Management student pursuing a career as a golf course superintendent. Students will need to complete an application and an interview with a panel. For more information, please contact Gerald Henry.
J. Fielding Reed, Georgia Plant Food Educational Society ($2000)
Priority will be given to students focused on agronomy, horticulture, soil fertility, soil chemistry, plant physiology, and other areas related to soil fertility and plant nutrition. A student application and supporting documentation (3 letters of support, of which one must be from the applicant’s advising professor and an official transcript) is required. Due November 1st, 2024.

Jimmy and Bunny Champion Academic Achievement Award ($3000)
Priority will be given to students focused on agronomy, horticulture, soil fertility, soil chemistry, plant physiology, and other areas related to soil fertility and plant nutrition. A student application and supporting documentation (3 letters of support, of which one must be from the applicant’s advising professor and an official transcript) is required. Due November 1st, 2024.

Ray Hays Family Scholarship ($2000)
Priority will be given to students focused on agronomy, horticulture, soil fertility, soil chemistry, plant physiology, and other areas related to soil fertility and plant nutrition. Special consideration will be given to applicants who desire to pursue a career in the agricultural equipment field. A student application and supporting documentation (3 letters of support, of which one must be from the applicant’s advising professor and an official transcript) is required. Due November 1st, 2024.

GCPA Legacy Scholarship ($2000)
Priority will be given to students focused on agronomy, horticulture, soil fertility, soil chemistry, plant physiology, and other areas related to soil fertility and plant nutrition. Special consideration will be given to applicants who desire to pursue a career in the crop protection industry. A student application and supporting documentation (3 letters of support, of which one must be from the applicant’s advising professor and an official transcript) is required. Due November 1st, 2024.

R.W. Griffin Agriculture Scholarship ($5000)
Priority will be given to students focused on agronomy, horticulture, soil fertility, soil chemistry, plant physiology, and other areas related to soil fertility and plant nutrition. Special consideration will be given to a student from Georgia who is seeking a degree related to agriculture and who has a desire to pursue a career in production agriculture. Eligible applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Up to four scholarships per year may be awarded. A student application and supporting documentation (3 letters of support, of which one must be from the applicant’s advising professor and an official transcript) is required. Due November 1st, 2024.

The Soil Science Society of Georgia ($1000)
Two $1000 awards designed to support students with an interest in expanding their knowledge of soils in Georgia.
• Supports research, experiential learning (e.g., internships), networking (i.e., conference travel)
• Applicants must be currently enrolled in undergraduate program in Georgia in junior/senior year with emphasis in soil science. Applicants must be or become members of SSSGA. Awardee should attend annual meeting.

The Southern Seed Association Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to children and grandchildren of Georgia Seed Association members and associate members who are pursuing a degree that will lead to employment in agriculture.
