About Dr. Henry

My research program is primarily focused on sports field management. Support from my Athletic Association endowment continues to create opportunities for the advancement of the Athens Turfgrass Research and Education Center. Over the years we have worked in conjunction with several investigators involved in engineering, biomechanics, and sports science with the collective objective of improving athletic field safety and performance. We have successfully published numerous studies that examine the influence of field playability on athlete injuries, performance testing techniques to accurately describe athletic field safety, and the impact of sports turf management on field playability and athlete perceptions. Our productivity in performance testing of sports fields has led to numerous invitations to speak regionally, nationally, and internationally. The success of the graduate students in my program is evidenced by numerous awards, honors, and scholarships on both local and national fronts. Several of them have returned to academia as professors at universities throughout the U.S. Additional research in my program is conducted in the fields of turfgrass weed science, ecology, and management with an emphasis on environmental fate.
